A MUSIC BLOG? (just for a little while)

So, I'm getting kind of bored with blogging. And, after having a few music-oriented convo's with Syka this past weekend, and having visited Nude as the News today to see their latest reviews of BloodSugarSexMagik and SuperUnknown (they don't update nearly enough, but it still is a good site for music reviews...), and after long ago writing about Pearl Jam's Vitalogy in a personal way that made Pat giddy, and with my current obsession with all things music-blog...

Maybe it is time to review some records from my youth, eh?

I passed the idea by Jessyka that I have thought about writing a book that was really just a memoir of my life in the form of reviews of the albums that I was listening to at certain times.

Make Yourself by Incubus = freshman year of college, driving up to Purdue U. to see my high school sweetheart...

Seki's The Last Song Before the Battle and Wounded Knee = the soundtrack to my first (and pretty much only) college crush...

Synchronicity = my first year living by myself in a new house...

Bleed American by Jimmy Eat World = that summer with Jess, Cory, and the Comfortzone Coffeehouse...

No Code by Pearl Jam = the soundtrack to a failed engagement...

These would merely be chapters. It's a book I'd like to write. Maybe I'll start it here.

A few thoughts of note today...

I'm sort of getting over Xanga. Not many friends post anymore, and not many leave comments. I like to play on Myspace much more, if you're interested: Me on Myspace.

You should check out a music blog called "I Am Fuel, You Are Friends," or, as we in the know like to call it, FUEL. So much good music...

Lastly, the above website's title comes from a Pearl Jam song, "Leash." They played it in Cinci and I was a happy camper indeed. I love the lyrics, and they, like so many Pearl Jam songs, seem to speak of my life, and the thoughts that dance in my head.

I know you all wanted to know, so I'll tell you my secret...

The Pearl Jam show ROCKED HARD.

Bob Pollard from GBV opened, twas quite nice. Pearl Jam opened with "Long Road" and then just took off like mad, playing quite a few energetic songs early, and kept with that pace most of the show.

They played "Unemployable" and "Inside Job," my favorties off the new album, so I was pleased in that respect. Oh, but it was much better than that. I don't want to bore you too much... but they did play "Leash," which they haven't played on tour for a good while (since 1994), and it was quite amazing, the one song I'd pray to hear actually, and it was worth every second. The closed with The Who's "Baba O'Riley," and included Mr. Pollard. It rocked quite a bit, even if the house threw on the lights before they got started. It didn't matter - they rocked out.

It was an enjoyable weekend all around with Jess-Y, as she's been called in the hood (and by Linford, for that matter), and we got to see her father, she got to go to her friend's baby shower, and we visited Pat in Cleveland - and we didn't return his suit. All part of my diabolical plan to forget... well... everything!

Today, though, it was back to work... and I am busy and exhausted.

But Pearl Jam rocks. And that is a good thing, something you can set your watch by.

Well, six guys, if you count Boom, who we should count, because, after all, my dog is named for him. Yes, I named my dog after Pearl Jam's touring keyboardist.

And in 5 days and 5 and a half hours, the doors will open to the US Bank Arena in Cincinnati, and I will ascend to glorious rock and roll heaven.

Yeah, I did it. I wrote this blog to campaign for Rob Chamness, that R.V.C. who's that damn good and who, by shear size and mass alone, is the whole damn show.

There was no Indy show for him to come up - but I got tickets to go see them in Cinci, so I'm happy. But there's no Texas dates this year either, and Rob really needs this. He needs your love, and your money, so he can get what he really needs - a Mike McCready Face Melting Guitar Solo.

For y'all doubters and haters out there: shut up. You don't know the beauty of the Rock and Roll Beast that is Pearl Jam.

If you're curious, maybe thinking about checking them out yourself: FUEL. A very good music blog that, a few days ago, posted some mp3s of recent PJ performances - including the first time that they've played "Leash" since 1994.

He needs this. So please. Send him money (but only if you have some leftover after sending some to Pat).

So... lots going on! Tonight, Chris's groomsmen are going to get last-fitted for our tuxes. For his and Laura's wedding this weekend. Everybody's getting married!!

And Toad the Wet Sprocket is playing tonight. But it's like $26, plus the damned vile Ticketmaster surcharge, which in this case is $5.75... which comes out to $63+. That sucks. I wanna go, and Jessyka wants to go... but hey, we've got so much going on...

I should have started a Toad fund a while back. Oh well.

Dat's ok... I've got tix to see Pearl Jam in Cinci next weekend... and that makes mouths happy.

Very happy.

Ha! Camp and Stuff

'S'up Y'all?

SO yeah... we toasted off Chris's bachelorhood this weekend... AFTER I had been at camp, counseling young ones for four days. I am dog/dead tired.

It was quite nice to just be with 'Syka yesterday, to relax, to watch the 'Burbs with her (it was her first time... ah, the memories of the first time...), to play old school computer games (holla atcha, Baldur's Gate, the only DND I get to play anymore...), yadda, and yadda. It was good.

Maybe I can get to sleep early tonight. Probably not.

So, part two of the Def Leppard saga...

My "amazing girlfriend" Jessyka had decided, after reading my blog on Thursday morning, to surprise me by bring my new Def Leppard CD to work while I was away on an appointment and lunch break. However, as she soon realized, her keys (and wallet) were in the console of my car. Hence 'Syka's call whilst I was at lunch, and her request that I bring her the keys to her car.

Thursday evening, the 'Syka'N'I'N'Friends caught OTR'N'Hem at the Buskirk'N'Chumley Theater in Bloomington. Over The Rhine in concert is always a treat. Seeing them with my amazing girlfriend always makes the treat sweeter. Seeing them with fellow Apples makes the experience quite nice. Hem was quite enjoyable, too. I really dug their set, and their line-up of instruments: guitars, mandolin, steel guitar, piano, upright bass, chick singer. Good stuff. Awesome cover of South Central Rain, originally a tune by R.E.M., and ol' fave pasttime band of mine.

Friday was one of those work days where the newsletter and bill stuffer you worked on doesn't get delivered to the mailhouse (you know, metaphorically speaking...), and, you know, that only happens every rare once in a while... .... like when it happened last month. Um, yeah, not so good.

But Friday evening was quite 'N'joyable, as I am currently wont to say. Chris'N'Laura came up from Bloomington'N'Scottsburg to spend the Eve'N'N' with 'Syka'N'I. 'Syka cooked a nice meal and we ended up talking and goofing around and watching The Emperor's New Groove, quite a favorite childrens' flick of mine. Saturday we spent some more time with them, Chris'N'I playing D'N'D Heroes on zee X-box, before some yummy chinese food. My buddy Jon came over for a while shortly after C'N'L left for home, and we accompanied Jon to Chili's for dinner... where, oddly enough, I used a gift certificate received as an apology for last month's mailing mishap that equaled Friday's work day. And if that's not as confusing as all of this "Blank'N'Blank'N'Blank" stuff, I don't know what it.

Sunday... we relaxed at home. And never had enough time. But got in a nice walk around the neighborhood.

And now we have Monday. Hooray for Work'N'Def'N'Leppard'N'Monday.
